Ten Ridiculous Records Set by Scottie Scheffler After His $4,500,000 PLAYERS Championship Win

At the 50th PLAYERS Championship, Scottie Scheffler despite struggling with a neck injury, torpedoed his way to the top of the leaderboard and went on to win the “fifth Major”. While it became a heartbreak for Wyndham Clark as he missed a putt to a lip-out, it was a blessing for Scheffler’s budding career.
Times when Scottie Scheffler swept up the golf records
10. Best score by the defending PLAYERS Championship winner
Scottie Scheffler earned his victory at THE 50th PLAYERS Championship after scoring 67, 69, 68, 64 in the four rounds at TPC Sawgrass – Stadium Course. This makes the world number one’s overall scoreline of 20 under 268, the best score to par by a defending champion at THE PLAYERS Championship. The last best was carded by Webb Simpson in 2019. He scored 10 under 278.
9. Lowest round of 60s
In the history of THE PLAYERS Championship, the lowest final round for a champion was the 8 under 64 in 2003 by Davis Love III. Now, after 11 years, Scheffler had tied that record as he shot his final round with six birdies, an eagle, and zero bogeys.
8. Lowest winning score in 3 decades
The round of 20 under 268 by Scheffler was the lowest score to win THE PLAYERS Championship in 30 years and the second-lowest shot by the winner in the history of THE PLAYERS Championship. The lowest score was shot by Greg Norman in 1994, when he carded 24 under 264.
7. Longest streak of bogey-free holes at the PLAYERS Championship
The Texas native made his last bogey at THE PLAYERS Championship on par-4 hole 5th in round three. After playing 31 consecutive holes, Scottie Scheffler did not miss a single putt for a bogey. This was the longest bogey-free streak made by a pro to win THE PLAYERS Championship after Davis Love III had a 29-hole streak in 2003.
6. Winning most events in the last three seasons
Scheffler made his debut on the PGA Tour in 2020. It has been only four years; however, in the last three seasons, he has won eight events. The last two came in 2024 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the 50th PLAYERS Championship. It makes Scheffler the only golfer to have as many wins, which is three more than any other golfer who has won in the same period.
5. Defending PGA Tour title after a win
In 2001, Tiger Woods won the Bay Hill Invitational, now known as the Arnold Palmer Invitational, and then moved on to win THE PLAYERS Championship right after. Woods won THE PLAYERS Championship after winning a PGA Tour event a week prior. Interestingly, Scheffler has been added as the fourth player to that list because of his back-to-back wins on the PGA Tour.
4. First to win THE PLAYERS title after a victory
That record being tied, Scheffler also became the first golfer, after Woods, who won the WGC Bridgestone Invitational in 2007, to successfully defend his PGA Championship title after winning a PGA Tour event a week before.
3. The biggest comeback on TPC Sawgrass
After the third round concluded, Scottie Scheffler was five strokes away from the leader, tied at six with 12 under. However, he came back and conquered the field to take back his crown. This made Scheffler tie the record for the largest final-round comeback by any golfer at THE PLAYERS championship.
2. First consecutive winner at THE PLAYERS Championship
The best record that was never made at THE PLAYERS Championship was that it had never seen a player come a year later to win the event again. Not even Woods or the 3-time PLAYERS Championship winner Jack Nicklaus attained the record. But Scheffler became the first ever to win THE PLAYERS Championship in two back-to-back seasons.
1. Fastest golfer to break the $50 million threshold
The prize money of $4.5 million from THE PLAYERS Championship propelled Scottie Scheffler as the 15th PGA Tour pro to earn $50 million on the Tour. And it also makes him the fastest golfer to break that $50 million margin, as he had played only 113 to reach it, compared to Rory McIlroy (169), Jon Rahm (141), and Woods (177).
Although there is a drastic difference in prize money from the old times, which helped Scheffler attain the glory of $50 million. With so many exceptional records made at the TPC Sawgrass’s 50th edition, Scottie Scheffler is on his way to becoming the first of his kind!
