“Bill Belichick Was Perfect for Tom Brady”: Dynasty Director Untangles Complicated QB-Coach Relation Amid Robert Kraft’s Regretful Admission
There has been much uproar about the docuseries The Dynasty since it hit the Apple TV+ platform. Now, it is the time for some unfiltered insights from the director. Matthew Hamachek recently appeared on The Rich Eisen Show, untangling the intricate relationship between two gridiron titans: Tom Brady and then-New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick.
Providing insights about the enduring legacy’s highs and lows, the franchise’s CEO had not been far behind. Hamachek also addressed Robert Kraft’s regretful admission targeting the coach-player relationship.
Belichick and Brady being the perfect partners
As found in the YouTube video, Hamacheck’s observation shed light on the symbiotic relationship between Brady and Belichick. He shed light on how the coach wanted to create a culture where players, no matter how successful they are, will prioritize the team performance over their individual success. Belichick’s mentorship has been a grounding experience for Brady, as Hamacheck claimed, “And but as Tom became a global celebrity and a four-five-six-time winning Super Bowl quarterback, the fact that you would be a rookie and you get your signing bonus and you think you’re you know your hot stuff and you get into that locker room. And then your first lowlight session Bill Belichick is saying to Tom Brady I can get the quarterback from down the street to throw a ball better than this and Tom Brady took it.”
The director offers viewers a window into the locker room dynamics and how the Belichick-Brady duo has been the perfect pair with aligned ambition and strategy. His opinion revealed, “I think Bill was perfect for Tom because Tom is one of the most driven human beings on the face of the planet but Bill always kept the carrot just out of reach and I think they were the perfect combination for each other.” What follows this reaction is addressing the Brady-Belichick partnership from Kraft’s point of view.
Kraft’s unraveling of dysfunction
As found in the YouTube video, going by the docuseries, the patriots CEO, Robert Kraft, openly claimed, referring to Belichick, that “he didn’t treat Tommy well.” As a result, the once unbreakable bond between Belichick and Brady disintegrated into a fractured relationship marked by tension in its final years. Communication breakdowns were common between the duo, where Brady often found Belichick over-critical about his performance.
The rift has been so intense that Kraft admitted to considering trading Brady post-2017, compounded by his scrutiny of Belichick’s decision. In the docuseries, the CEO also mentioned how keeping Brady and Belichick together for 20 years has been difficult. His failure to continue the Brady-Belichick legacy has been a regretful experience for Kraft, with Brady being the star quarterback and Belichick being the best head coach.
Considering that Robert Kraft had “no editorial control,” his take on the Brady-Belichick partnership has been unfiltered. To him, with Brady leaving the Patriots, it was “the greatest cycle in the history of the NFL” coming to an end.
