Tiger Woods failed to come out on top yet again! The golfer hasn’t been able to top the field ever since he made his comeback at the Hero World Challenge back in 2023. Unfortunately, the golfing legend has experienced a similar situation at the Seminole Pro-Member that took place not too long ago, as he could only finish a T33.
A tweet was shared by NUCLR GOLF on its X handle (previously known as Twitter) showcasing the results of the recently concluded exclusive tournament. The 15-time major champ, who was paired up with Seth Waugh, the CEO of the PGA of America, was able to dish out only a 67 against the field, which included many other stars as well.
Case in point: in the gross competition, the 48-year-old and his partner could only finish a T-44 where they registered a 70. Interestingly, Mackenzie Hughes, who was paired with Frank Edwards, managed to emerge victorious in the same with a score of 64. However, they could only finish T2, tied with Jimmy Dunne III and Ryan Fox, who were declared the runner-up by a scorecard playoff after locking their handicaps leading their scores to come to 62.
The 82-time PGA Tour champ had earlier confirmed his presence for the recent tournament, despite divulging how he would not be committing to the Arnold Palmer Invitational. His decision came just weeks after withdrawing from the Genesis Invitational due to the influenza and dehydration that he experienced on the course.
Meanwhile, Erik van Rooyen, along with John Pinkham, won the event in the net competition, where they were able to register a figure of 62. But, coming to the Gross contest, the two could only finish in 8th place with a figure of 66 on the scoreboard. Surprisingly, his T1 finish at the Net event came as a solace of sorts for the golfer who fell short of glory at the recently ended PGA Tour event, the Cognizant Classic.
Jumping to the Seminole Pro-Member after PGAT Florida Swing
The 34-year-old Rooyen fell short of victory at the recent PGA Tour tournament, which marked the start of the circuit’s Florida Swing. He registered a score of 14 under 270 to rake in $801,000, all the while finishing three strokes behind Austin Eckroat, who emerged victorious at the same with a 17 under 267.
What’s more, he wasn’t the only golfer who finished the final day’s play on Sunday itself before going ahead to participate in the exclusive event. Even Rory McIlroy, who finished T20 with 68 in the Gross Competition and T22 with 66 in the Net competition at the Seminole Golf Club, along with his father Gerry McIlroy, had managed to finish his round at the Cognizant Classic before the day’s play was suspended.
Although the 1997 Masters Tournament winner couldn’t top the field at the event, he did manage to score a 67 on the course, just five strokes shy of the winner’s figures. It does paint a hopeful picture for the golfer among his fans, despite the disappointment.
